

ROCKFORD, IL. Prince Hearns Jr., 73, passed away Monday August 17, 2015 in his home. Born February 17 1942, in Olive Branch, Mississippi to Prince and Zullar (Davis) Hearns. Prince was a 1960 graduate of Harlem High School. He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corp, where he met his wife of 51 years, Mary (Byrd) Hearns. Prince retired in 1997 after 25 years as a Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputy, during this time he became the first Black patrol Sergeant in Winnebago County. His love of the Bears, horses and football could only be surpassed by the love of his family. In 1986 Prince was among the first American Football Association Semi-Pro Hall of Fame inductees, earned by playing for Rockford's first Professional football team, the Rockford Rams.
Survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Prince III (Brenda), Jason, and Brandon; sisters, Freddie Mae Jackson and Ella Mae Jones; 8 adored grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents.
