My dad always spoke highly of Prince..as a student he rode the school bus my dad drove and he always laughed and said Prince kept order on the bus for him...later they remained friends through adulthood..I felt like I knew him too though we only met once..may he RIP and the family be comforted with their memories

Prince was a great guy. He was the one that patrolled the neighbor hood when I lived in Machesney Park, IL. I had the pleasure to meet and have conversations with him many times. 

 He was liked and loved by those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be missed greatly. My sympathies to the whole family.

We grew up in the same neighborhood...my condolences to his family.  He was notable even back then.

I was very saddened to hear about the passing of this great man, Prince Hearns.  We played together on the Rockford Rams for 3 years.  He will never be forgotten.  Rest in peace, my friend, Leon Black

My sincerest condolences to the Hearns Family. Although it has been years, I remember him very well as I sat on the sidelines watching him play with the Rockford Rams. He was well respected at that time by everyone.

Hearns Family: I first met Prince when I was a young dispatcher. He was a pleasure to work with and he always had kind words. The last time I saw Prince was at the YMCA several years ago when he beat me during a game of racquetball. Although I scored a few points, it was a very quick game and Prince was a very good sport about winning. The Hearns family is in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm sorry we were not able to attend the service for Prince Jr.  I worked with him for several years. He was one of my training officer when I started with the Sheriff's Dept, and I felt he taught me a lot about the job and people. The article in the newspaper was a gem, so true to him. I know he will be missed and we feel for the entire Hearns family.

Prince was an amazing man, a great mentor and a true friend. He will be deeply missed.

While he has finished his position on earth, his new position in Heaven is just beginning as he will continue to watch over, lead, guide and direct you all until you meet again. You are not alone in your sadness. Prince was a very likeable and caring person.  Occasionally after we both retired, I would see Prince at Schnuck's on Rockton.  We would just stand there and reminisce about the times we spent at the County.  My wife and I extend our condolences to you and your family.

To Prince, III and the entire Hearns family, heartfelt condolences to you during this difficult time. Take comfort in knowing that the God of your Salvation has your loved one wrapped up in his arms. His work on earth is complete, but his new job is just beginning for now he will be watching over you from above and still guiding and directing your paths until you all meet again. PRINCE HEARNS JR., 73 ROCKFORD - passed away Monday, August 17, 2015, in his home. 

Prince was a 1960 graduate of Harlem High School. He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corp, where he met his wife of 51 years, Mary (Byrd) Hearns. Prince retired in 1997, after 25 years as a Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputy, during this time he became the first Black Patrol Sergeant in Winnebago County. 

The Northern Illinois Multi-Jurisdictional Honor Guard is proud to assist the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department with an Honors Memorial Service.

I extend my deepest sympathy to family of Prince Hearns, Jr.  Mr. Hearns was always this bigger than life figure to me growing up.  My mother just spoke of Mr. Hearns last week. I will continue to lift you all up in prayer . . .

Condolences to the family. I only met him once about 44 years ago at the scene of an accident. He treated me more than fairly, gave me some good advice that I sorely needed. So sorry for your loss.

I never met Prince Hearns Jr unfortunately but he must be a great man i serve with his son and that in itself is a great honor his legacy character survives through his family and because of this his son has helped me endure through times of hardship Even though i do not know you sir i salute you Semper Fidelis forever

Prince Jr. Was always respectful and caring toward Mom and Dad.  He enjoyed spending time with family. He will always be remembered!

He always called me by my full name, "Curlee Percey"! Now when I hear someone call me by my full name, I will think of him! I worked out with Prince for a number of years at a Tae Kwon Do Academy in Rockford. This man was one of the gentlest men I've ever had the privilege of knowing and his small was infectious. Thanks for the memories Prince!! Bless the family!

To say I was shocked beyond words is an understatement.  I played against Prince and also had the pleasure be his Coach with the Rockford Rams.  He would always have a smile and kind words for everyone!  I have always believed that Prince was one of the Football players over looked by the NFL and could have played in the NFL with Great success.!

I never met Prince Sr. but given the amount of stories and advice that I have heard him give to his son, Prince, I feel like I knew the great character of this man. So sorry to hear of Prince's passing.  He was a man of dignity, even as a young man in high school.

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My father, Gerald Heisler worked with Prince for as long as I can remember, he used to come by our house on Forest Avenue. He was always kind to me when I would come visit my dad at the station. Heaven gained a great man and he will continue to watch over his family from there. God Bless!
