

Robert C. Wenger, 89 of Rockford, departed his earthly life on Monday, October 3, 2016. Born January 6, 1927 in Decatur, WI. The son of Gottfried and Anna Wenger. Moved to Durand, IL and later to Rockford, IL where he built his house. Veteran of the United States Navy having served in WWII. Married his devoted wife Annie Scibona on December 7, 1957. She predeceased him on May 30, 2006. Co-owned Commercial Refrigeration. Lifetime member of the IOV and SM&SF Club. Member of the Venetian Club, Tebala Shrine and Masonic Lodge 166. He enjoyed woodworking, beekeeping and camping in Montello, WI for many years.
Survived by his children, John (Sue) Wenger, MaryAnn (Scott) Simpson, Janet Wenger, Bobby (Tina Pumilia) Wenger; grandchildren, Kim (Brandon) Butenhoff, Matthew (Kristin) Simpson, Michael (Jessica Parker) Simpson, Marissa (Fiance John DiBenardo) Simpson, Samantha Thomas; great-grandchildren, Connor and Kaleb Simpson, Sophie DiBenardo, Madisyn Parker and soon to be baby Miken Simpson in December; brother, Willie (Bill) Wenger; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many friends. Predeceased by his parents; lovely wife, Annie of 48 years; brothers Godfrey and Rudy.
Funeral Service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park. Visitation on Monday, October 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at 9 a.m. until time of service. Entombment to follow services in Sunset Memorial Gardens Chapel of Love. Special thanks to VNA Hospice Care, Owen, Sam, Julie, Cindy and Paula; the doctors and nurses at Mercy Health System A3 Oncology Unit.
