Walter R. Guffey Sr.

on March 31, 2015. Born October 28, 1923 in Watauga, KY

and married July 14,1956 to his bride of 57 years, Betty Lou Winkler.

He attended Jacksonville School of the Deaf, was an active member of Rockford Lutheran Church of the Deaf where he served as treasurer. A member of the Elks Club, Eagles Club, Illinois Association for the Deaf, and the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf.

An energetic and loving husband, retired from Sundstrand, avid gardener raising both vegetables and flowers, he also enjoyed a variety of wood projects and an avid Chicago sports fan.

Survived by children, Lewis (Jody) Guffey, Kathy (Jamie) Petrie, Wally (Rhonda) Guffey, Jr; daughter in law, Jodi Miles- Summeril; grandchildren, John Miles, Nicholas (Krystal) Guffey, K Louise (Karl) Seager, Maggie (Tim Hurkman) Phillps, Nicole Howard, Jamie Petrie, Jr., and Eddie Petrie; sister, Viola Lamp; sister in law, Jean Winkler; nieces & nephews; 10 great grandchildren; 4 great- great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Jerry Guffey; grandchild Nicole Guffey; brother Calvin Guffey

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 6, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N Alpine Road, Machesney Park, Il.

Visitation 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
