William "Bill" Hairl Cobb Sr.

Bill was born on October 14, 1934 in Braggadocio, MO., the son of Willie James and Amanda (nee Smith) Cobb. Bill married Delena "Dena" Haggard on March 27, 1954 in Hernando, Mississippi. Bill was a member of Silver Hill United Pentecostal Church for 25 years and is currently a member of Firstborn Ministries UPC since 1988 with his wife Dena. Bill’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, traveling, singing with his wife and listening to Southern Gospel music. Bill worked in the automotive business for Frontier Ford, Auto Classics/Mercedes and was the Service Manager for Fran Kral Lincoln Mercury where he received many awards and certificates for his service. Bill continued his career in funeral service, he worked for Julian Poorman Funeral Home in Rockford and later became a trusted and dedicated employee of Sunset Funeral Home and Advantage Funeral Home where he received his “Service of Excellence” award for his compassion and service he gave to every family he served.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dena; children Radonna (Tim) Oakley, Deborah (Timothy) Kast, William (Deanna) Cobb, Jr. and Ethan (Megan) Cobb; grandchildren Willie, Jake, Katy, Holly, Hayley, Johnnie and Mikey; sister Clara Smith.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggest to the family.

Visitation for Bill will be Friday April 22, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park. A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be 2:00 pm Saturday April 23, 2016 at Firstborn Ministries UPC 8213 N. Alpine Road in Loves Park with Pastors Wendell and Anthony Maynard officiating. Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
