A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. Burial will be private for family only in Riverside Cemetery (North Gate). Dr. Richard Kremer and Rev. Ron Holland will officiate. The family will greet friends following the memorial service and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon 31204.
Mrs. Turner was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Grady Attaway and attended Statesboro High School, Virginia Intermont College and the University of Georgia.
In 1949 she married Ben Ray Turner and they resided in Statesboro. In 1962 they moved to Macon with their four sons. When the oldest left for college she took a job with the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, retiring after 22 years.
Mrs. Turner was a member of Vineville Baptist Church and was active in many church activities. She was a member of the XYZ Club and served as president and editor of the newsletter. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Lamplighters Sunday School Class. In 1995 she was chosen as the Senior Cherry Blossom Queen, having been sponsored by her church for this honor. Her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16.
After her retirement she did volunteer work in many areas such as Meals on Wheels and various church ministries. She was a member of Macon Civic Womans Club and served as president twice. She was an avid bridge player and also very gifted in arts and crafts of many kinds which se generously shared with others. She was also a member of a Book Club and bowling league.
Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ben Ray Turner, Sr. after 64 years of marriage, and her twin sister, June Tillman. She is survived by her sons, Ben Ray Turner, Jr. of Macon, Terrill A. Turner of Atlanta, Dr. Stephen B. Turner of Macon, and Dr. Robert M. Turner (Kerri) of Ft. Myers, FL; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Nancy Hollaway of Lexington, KY, Jo Akins (Paul) of Statesboro, and Bill Attaway (Pearl) of Marietta.
