

Betty Robertson Chipman, 91, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017, after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 9, from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono. The funeral service will follow immediately in the chapel at Snow’s with burial at Macon Memorial Park. The Rev. Len Strozier will officiate.
Mrs. Chipman was born on September 22, 1925 in Atlanta, GA. She was the daughter of the late Ray E. and Louelle Steed Robertson. She grew up in Atlanta and in the 7th Grade was the runner-up in the Atlanta Constitution-National Spelling Bee in Fulton County. She was the 1942 Valedictorian of Fulton High School and was selected as the best all-around student. She worked for Georgia Fire Insurance Service and Delta Air Lines after high school.
Mrs. Chipman married Frank Chipman in 1947. Following their move to Macon in 1952, Mrs. Chipman worked as a homemaker while her children were young. Later, she worked as an overcharge claims clerk and a transcription clerk for the Norfolk Southern Railway. After her retirement from the railroad, she volunteered with the American Cancer Society and with the Board of Elections polling place at Riley Elementary School. She was a member of the former Cherokee Heights Baptist Church which is now known as New Heights Baptist Church. Before Mrs. Chipman’s extended illness, she was well known among family and friends for sending special cards and notes of concern and for calling, visiting, and delivering fruit and frozen salads during times of illness. She had a remarkable memory of her friends’, children’s, and grandchildren’s activities and acquaintances and frequently asked them for the latest updates. She lived by her motto, “Anything worth doing is worth doing well.”
Mrs. Chipman was preceded in death by her husband James Franklin Chipman and her siblings Ray Robertson, Jr., Elsie Bradford and Sue White. She is survived by her children: Debbie (Edwin) McLure of Palm Bay, FL, and Jim (Patsy) Chipman of Powder Springs, GA, her six grandchildren: Tiffany (Jon) Fowler, Jonathan (Joanna) Chipman, Jameson, Stephanie, Stephen, and Benjamin Chipman and seven great-grandchildren: Felicity, Grace, Ian and Faith Fowler and Connor, Jesse and Beckett Chipman, her sister, Dorothy Rucker and eleven nieces and nephews.
