

Cater Snow Clay, age 84, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017, in Macon, Georgia. Mrs. Clay was born September 2, 1933, to Frances Cater and Cubbedge Snow in Macon. She graduated from A. L. Miller High School in 1951.
She received her AB degree from Duke University, Durham, NC, in 1955, where she served as president of Phi Mu Fraternity. Following graduation she worked for Phi Mu as a traveling secretary and later as a reporter for the Macon Telegraph.
Mrs. Clay married Henry Tucker Clay, MD in 1957, and they lived in Roswell, New Mexico, where Dr. Clay was stationed in the Air Force Medical Corps before returning to Macon.
Mrs. Clay served as an officer in the Junior League of Macon, the Town and Country Garden Club, and the Bibb County Medical Auxiliary. She was a national officer in the Phi Mu Alumnae Association. Mrs. Clay was also a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Clay is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Tucker Clay, MD, and her brother, Cubbedge Snow, Jr. She is survived by her children, Cater Clay Thompson (Bert) and Frances Louise Clay, both of Macon, and Dr. Hank Tucker Clay, Jr. of Cut Bank, Montana; five grandchildren, Cater Thompson Starling (Kyle), Bert Ferguson Thompson, Jr., Henry Tucker Clay, III, Martha Mallary Clay, and Calder Bayne Clay; sister-in-law, Edyth Snow of Macon; one niece; 4 nephews; and numerous cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. Burial will be private for family only in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Towson will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home and asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Stratford Academy, 6010 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31220, the Animal Shelter of the donor’s choice, or the donor’s favorite charity.
