

Charles Wingate Perry, 91, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Pine Pointe Hospice, Macon, GA. Memorial services and a celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 24th at Citra United Methodist Church, Citra, FL with Military Honors. The Rev. Ben Clark will officiate. At his request, his ashes will be scattered at a later date over his former ship which is now a reef in Key West, FL. Lunch and visitation will be held following the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Citra Historical Society or Citra Improvement Society, P. O. Box 1033, Citra, FL 32113 or to the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch, 2486 Cecil Webb Place, Live Oak, FL 32064 or Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210.
Mr. Perry was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Vivian Ellis Perry and by his parents, John Henry Perry, Sr. and Mabel Wingate Perry. He served with the U. S. Navy during World War II stationed in the Pacific on the USS Wilkes-Barre. Living in Citra all his life, he was co-owner of The Orange Shop and was a past president of the Florida Gift Fruit Shipper’s Association. He was a member of Pine United Methodist Church and was active in its restoration. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Charlene Perry, a brother, John Henry Perry, Jr. and a sister, Virginia Perry Polson. Active in the life of his home town he served as Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department, as Volunteer Chairman of Marion County American Red Cross, a member of the original North Marion High School Booster Club, and a life time member of the NRA.

He is survived by those he loved most, his daughters, Patricia Perry Mosley and husband Rob Mosley, Pamula Perry Johns; Granddaughters, Paula Mosley Cowan and husband William “Chip” Cowan, Shelley Johns Smith and husband, Jason Smith, and Jennifer Leigh Johns; seven great grandchildren, Kathryn, Zachary, Coleman and Jameson Cowan, Sydney and Ally Aitkens and Cooper Smith and his nephew, Jim Polson.
