Clifford Wallace Mares, Jr., 88, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on December 6. He is survived by wife Bobbie; children, Vicki (Scott), Jeff (Beth), Tim (Nicole) as well as grandchildren, Melissa (Colby), Shelby (Brandon), Benjamin (Carolina), Virginia, Grace, Gabe, Salem; great grandchild, Champ, and many nieces and nephews.
Cliff was born in Alamosa, Colorado, and grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, with his mother Bernice, sisters Rosemarie and Lillian. He worked for the FBI in Washington, DC, and served in the US Army and the Army Reserves.
Cliff worked for GEICO, moving to Macon when the company opened the regional office and served as Regional Claims Manager. He earned his business degree from Mercer, held a real estate broker license, and served in leadership positions with The United Way, March of Dimes and other medical and civic volunteer organizations in Middle Georgia.
Cliff was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Macon and served as president of the Canterbury Sunday School class. He was an avid golfer for most of his life, a sports fan, and a longtime coach of Little League baseball. Cliff treasured his family, who knew him as a generous, humorous and supportive patriarch who will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 3:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel with Rev. John Kinser officiating. A visitation will follow in the chapel. In lieu of flowers consider making a donation to The United Way of Central Georgia, www.unitedwaycg.org
