I was a very new nursing faculty member at Clemson University. Gloria was Chair of the Undergraduate Program---i was having a meeting with her when she explained that in order to be successful in the "tenure-track" at Clemson, one must achieve a terminal degree in your discipline--meaning nursing. I blinked and said but" I'm already "old" (I was in my 30's), I don't know if I can do this" (go back to school to earn my doctoral degree). She looked at me and in a very kind but determined way said "you're going to be alive in 7 years anyway, why not spend the time getting your doctorate---what else are you going to do?" Classic Gloria!! I have used that quote with so many students throughout my career! Thank you, Gloria! She was one of the most influential people in my career. What a loss!!

To the family of Gloria,
Gloria was our next door neighbor in Clemson many years ago. I remember when she built her house next door to us, and she was such a lovely person. I haven't seen her in many years, but wanted to express our sincere condolences.
Sincerely, Emily and Charlie Gooding

When I was growing up (I am 81 now} Gloria lived on College Place where I lived. She taught me to ride a bicycle when I was about 10 years old. I knew her and her sister and her 2 brothers as neighbors . I knew that Gloria Wanted to be a Nun back then.I was Betty Tarver and I lived on College Place until I entered nurses training at the Macon Hospital School of Nursing in 1956
I will always remember Gloria and Betty.I also remember going to a movie with them one Sunday. That was unusual for me because my father did not believe in going to movies on Sunday: any other day was fine .That was strange since He was not a religious man He did not attend any church . He was baptized Into the LDS Church much later.Gloria seemed to have had a happy and succesful life.
