
James Erwin (Jim) Moseley age 91, a long-time resident of Macon, GA died on Friday, February 10, 2017. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Kinser officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masonic Children’s Home, 1417 Nottingham Dr., Macon, GA 31211 or First Presbyterian Church of Macon, 682 Mulberry St., Macon, GA 31202.
Mr. Moseley was born October 10, 1925 to the late Samuel A. and Ida Lee Ray Moseley of Henry County, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Stanton Moseley and son, Lt. Commander, James Robert Moseley.
After graduation from McDonough High School in 1942, Jim worked with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co. until he was called to serve his country during World War II. He saw action in France and Germany, serving briefly with General Patton’s Third Army. After the war, he returned to work with Southern Bell until 1964 when he accepted the position of Grand Secretary/Recorder, Georgia York Rite Bodies, which he held for 35 years.
Jim became a Mason in 1950 and was involved in every aspect of the Masonic Order. He was raised in Meridian Sun Lodge No. 26 in Griffin, GA and became Worshipful Master in 1956. He later affiliated with Mabel Lodge No. 255 in Macon, GA in 1985, became Worshipful Master in 1996. Jim became Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Georgia in 1980.
Jim was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Macon, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons in 1998. He was a member of Sons of the American Revolution.
He is survived by his grandson, Kevin S. Moseley (Stacie) and granddaughter, Emily M. Surbaugh (Brian); great grandchildren, Kyle, Nicholas, Aiden Moseley; step-great grandchildren, Leighanna, Henry, Sydney Birt; sister, Elizabeth Parker (Russ) and several nieces and nephews.
