

James F. Melton formerly of Macon, age 87, passed away on February 19, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA. He was reunited with his wife Annie Laura on their 64th anniversary. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Riverside Cemetery entering through the Madison Street gate with the Rev. Jimmy Duke officiating. The Family will greet friends on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Snow’s Memorial Chapels, Cherry Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Vineville United Methodist Church, 2045 Vineville Ave., Macon, GA 31204.
Jim Melton was born and raised in Macon, GA and spent most of his life in Macon. He was a graduate of Lanier High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II where he was a radio operator outside of Frankfurt, Germany. He grew up in Melton’s Grocery and later moved to Scotts on Vineville and then to Piggly Wiggly Southern. After retiring, he and Annie Laura enjoyed travelling to all 50 states, spending time at Ormond Beach, FL, and visiting their daughter Kim. Around Macon he became known for his more than 100 “bird houses” built as replicas of actual houses and historical buildings in Macon.
Mr. Melton is preceded in death by his parents Martha McKay Melton and William Ross Melton; his wife Annie Laura Melton; and his brothers William A. Melton and Ross K. Melton. Survivors include his daughter Kim Melton of Dahlonega, GA and a number of nieces and nephews.
