

James P “Duck” Moss, 83, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Pine Pointe Hospice. Memorial services and a celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 29, 2012 at Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Jay Harris and Dr. Bob Moon officiating. Members of the Nan Freeman Sunday School Class are asked to sit as an honorary group. The family will meet friends from 1 p.m. to service time on Monday in the Family Life Center of Martha Bowman. They ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Nan Freeman Sunday School Class for the Food Bank Account, Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church, 500 Bass Road, Macon, GA 31210.
Mr. Moss, son of the late C. T. and Lillian Ethel Hyatt Moss, was a lifelong resident of Macon graduating from Lanier High School. He was the brother of the late Charles T. Moss, Jr. and Harold A. Moss, Sr. Mr. Moss was retired as Captain from the Georgia National Guard 48th Armor Division, was retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 40 years’ service and was a member of AMFICO. He was a member of Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Nan Freeman Sunday School Class. Mr. Moss was a member of Macon Lions Club where he served twice as president, was voted twice as Outstanding Lion Club Member and was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Lions Club Award. He was a member of Satilla River Club serving as secretary-treasurer for twenty years and continues to serve on the Board. Mr. Moss was an avid volunteer for Relay for Life and for several years was recognized as the individual volunteer who raised the most funds.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Jeanette Childres Moss of Macon; his daughter, Lydia Moss of Macon; his nephew, Earle (Sandy) Childres of Griffin and their children and grandchildren.
