

James Royce Roper, 77, of Macon, Georgia passed away Monday, August 18, 2025. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, August 27th at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Ingleside Baptist Church. The family will have a time of visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. Dr. Mark Hudgins will officiate.
Born in Franklin, North Carolina, he was the son of the late James Verlin Roper and Minnie Ledford Roper. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Juanita Fowler, Brenda Kuntzelman and Marvin Roper.
A graduate from Monticello High School, Mr. Roper lettered in football and played baseball. After high school, he served in the Air Force at Robins Air Force Base. He retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company where he was known for his hard work and talent as an electrician. He was a member of the Ingleside Baptist Church where he attended the FISH Sunday School Class. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog Fan, Nascar fan, and in the past, he loved to show his Shelty Show Dogs.
After a brief courtship, he married the most beautiful woman he had ever met, Linda. He was proud of his family. He loved to talk about his granddaughter, Hunter, whom he helped care for starting at 6 weeks old. Royce and Sue had many beloved dogs known as their fur babies throughout the years. Royce treasured his time working in is award winning yard, having earned the neighborhood title “Yard of the Year” for several years. Being the envy of the neighborhood, people would often stop by to admire and engage him in discussing his landscaping talent. Other favorite hobbies included grilling, feeding all types of birds, especially his hummingbirds, putting up nesting boxes for the birds, and taking care of all woodland critters.
Royce was a Man of God, known for his integrity and faith. He was completely devoted to his wife with a love that is rare. He had a wonderful sense of humor, extremely witty, and loved to have a good time.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Linda Sue Roper, daughter, Susan Roper Davidson (Victor), Grandchildren, Hunter Leigh Davidson and his loyal dog, Skyler. Siblings, Lolita Whitton, Patricia Massey, Joyce Roper and Willard Roper (Mary Ann), and several nieces and nephews.
Snow's Memorial Chapel, Bass Road, has charge of arrangements.
