

James Clifford Tonn, age 83, of Macon, Georgia passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025. A Celebration of his Life will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 753 College Street, followed by a visitation/reception in the Parish house. The Rev. Dr. Bryan Hinson will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Jim was born in Ft. Benning, Georgia the son of the late Marjorie Hartman Tonn and Rudolph William Tonn. Jim earned a Bachelor's Degree in landscape architecture from Louisiana State University and a Master's Degree in regional and urban planning from the Ohio State University. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was the retired director of the Middle Georgia RDC, Regional Development Commission. Jim was a proud member and past president of the National Association of Development Organization (NADO). He was one of the selected liaisons from the United States to partner with the German Marshall Fund in Germany.
Jim was a faithful and active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He served on the Vestry off and on for over 20 years, in addition to multiple other parish related committees. Jim dedicated his time and talents to volunteering on numerous boards, charities, art alliances, and other community outreach programs.
Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Jim was impacted by his kindness and generosity. He never met a stranger, consistently demonstrating genuine care for all, and possessed an unwavering zest for life. He had a passion for travel, food, art, and other cultures. Jim visited all 50 states, most of Europe, South America, and Asia. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends, especially his grandchildren who he loved so much. He truly was one of a kind.
Jim is preceded in death by his brother, Rudy Tonn of Elton, Louisiana.
Jim is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Linda Vickers Tonn of Macon; children, Jason Clifford Tonn of Macon, Ethan James Tonn (Misti) of Culloden, and Ashley Tonn Taylor (Derek) of Juliette; grandchildren, Hayden and Walker Tonn and Hunt and Elle Taylor; sister-in-law, Bonnie Tonn of Elton, Louisiana.
Snow's Memorial Chapel, Bass Road, has charge of arrangements.
