

MACON – Jeanie Zeigler Smith, age 78, entered Glory on Friday, May 14, 2010. Private burial services will be held at Riverside Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Chip Miller officiating. The family will receive friends at the Gathering Place at First Presbyterian Church following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 682 Mulberry Street, Macon 31201 or to Gideon’s International Macon Camp East, P. O. Box 5718, Macon 31208.
Mrs. Smith was born in Valdosta, Georgia on September 23, 1931 to John Russell Zeigler and Grace Bates Zeigler. She moved to Macon when she was eighteen months old. She attended Whittle Grammar School, graduated from A. L. Miller High School for Girls in 1949 and Mercer University in 1953. While at Mercer, she was a member of Phi Mu fraternity.
A member of First Presbyterian Church for thirty-eight years, she taught Bible studies and was president of Women of the Church and circle leader and member of the Christian Women’s Club. She was also a member of the Federated Garden Club.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents and by her son, Jeffrey Russell Smith.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, James A. Smith III, along with three children, James A. Smith IV, Judson R. Smith and Jill Smith Adrien. Her ten grandchildren are William D. Smith, James A. Smith V, Christian R. Smith, Matthew A. Smith, John-Mark Smith, Andrew C. Smith, Nathan E. Smith, Christopher T. Wilkins, Benjamin D. Adrien and Sarah R. Adrien. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, along with a brother, John R. Zeigler of Franklin Springs and one sister, Mary Ann Zeigler Sheehan of Columbus.
