Joan Burk Voltmer, 93, passed away peacefully September 2025, at The Cottages in Macon, Georgia. A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at North Macon Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Hunter Stevenson officiating. Visitation will follow.
Born in Warren County, New Jersey, Joan was the daughter of the late Evelyn Donaldson Burk and John Edward Burk. She was also predeceased by her loving husband, Egon Voltmer, stepfather Willis Bergen and brother Robert (Bobby) Burk.
From her early childhood, Joan developed a love for reading which continued throughout her life. While working and raising her three children, she became an accomplished seamstress, crocheter, and honed her culinary skills. Joan spent most of her working career in the banking industry. She served as the branch manager of Suburban Savings and Loan in Hackettstown, New Jersey, and was a member of the local chamber of commerce.
Upon retirement, Joan moved to Bolingbroke, Georgia where she joined the Heart of Georgia Quilt Guild. Her passion for quilting was only matched by her artistic talent in design, color and intricate detail. An award-winning quilter, Joan shared her talents by teaching others in Georgia and continued when she moved to Eden, North Carolina where she was the co-founder of the Eden Quilt Guild.
Joan immersed herself in the life of the Presbyterian Church of Eden as she ran the food bank, worked in the church office , served on multiple committees and donated one of her handmade quilts yearly for the church raffle. She moved back to Georgia in 2000 and became a member of North Macon Presbyterian Church where she participated in a women's Bible Study.
She is survived by her loving children, Lois McHugh of El Dorado Hills, California, Brenda Timms of Macon Georgia, Terry LeClair (Charmayne) of Raymond Washington; her sister, Linda Wells of Hackettstown, New Jersey; eight grandchildren who fondly remember her fresh baked sour dough bread, infamous desserts, Christmas cookies and the "do not call" during jeopardy, Sandra Pebbles Tuggle, Dustin Pebbles, Christa Timms Newton, Chad Timms, Jerad LeClair, Travis Settlemyre (LeClair), Melissa LeClair Gonzales, and Paul LeClair; eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all of the staff at The Cottages Assisted Living in Macon.
