Joe Riley Ezell, III entered the gates of Heaven and into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 following thirty-seven months of suffering with a rare, untreatable neurological disorder. He was in the arms of his wife Deb (as he liked to call her) listening to music they shared together as he completed his battle and lived his faith to the very end of this life.
A tribute and a service to honor Joe will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2016 at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue, 3077 Pio Nono Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31206 (Phone 478-788-3778) with Pastor Paul Dziadul officiating. Joe would want everyone to come dressed as they feel most comfortable. The family will meet friends following this tribute service. Burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens will be private. As was Joe’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, c/o Bill O’Reilly, P. O. Joe was born on November 15, 1951 at Macon Hospital and lived in the Middle Georgia area his entire life. He was preceded in death by his dad and his Hero, Joe R. Ezell, Jr. Joe’s grandfather, Joe R. Ezell, Sr. was one of the first pharmacists in Macon in the early 1900s. Joe was a 1969 graduate of Willingham High School, attended Middle Georgia College for two years and attended the University of Georgia pursuing a Pharmacy degree graduating in 1974. He then completed a Clinical Pharmacist residency at the Medical College in Augusta in 1975. He retired from the Medical Center of Central Georgia on December 12, 2012 after thirty years of service as Clinical Pharmacist. He was also Data Systems Manager of the Pharmacy Department of the Medical Center.
Joe loved music from a very early age and was involved in several bands as a vocalist and guitarist in his high school and college years. He was a kind, gentle soul who loved and helped his fellow man. Joe was a godly, spiritual man and shared that with everyone he encountered. He made an impact on countless lives. Though Joe experienced many trials and tribulations during his life time, he kept the faith that God would direct him in the journey he was called to travel…..And sure enough, the best was saved for last. He told anybody who would listen how happy his Deb had made him and that he had never been as happy in his entire life, and you could tell how true this was as they both glowed with happiness. Joe dearly loved his daughter, Amy and would often comment that she was the best treasure God had blessed him with. Joe adored his granddaughters, Genevieve and Adeline and loved showering them with his love, and of course, presents.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Deborah Waters Ezell, Macon, Georgia; his daughter, Amy Ezell Moore, Jacksonville, Florida; his mother, Vernice Tucker Ezell, Macon, Georgia; his sister, Wanda (Quentin) Grubbs of Macon, Georgia; his grandson, John-William (Marlene) Richter and Joe’s great granddaughter, Amelia Richter, all of Macon; Joe’s great grandson, Matthew Richter of Macon; Kevin Moore, the father of Joe’s granddaughters Genevieve and Adeline Moore all of Jacksonville, Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Joe dearly loved his family and looked forward each year to the reunions that were held.
