

Joe C. Genone, 94, of Macon, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, August 11 in a local hospital. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fr. Allan J. McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, North Gate with full military honors. There will be a Rosary at Snow's Memorial Chapel on Sunday, August 16 at 6 p.m. with visitation until 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Building Fund, 830 Poplar Street, Macon, 31201, or Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org.
Joe was born in Macon. He attended Lanier High School and Armstrong Junior College in Savannah, Georgia with an athletic scholarship for football and basketball. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and was sent to officer candidate school graduating as a 2nd lieutenant. Lt. Genone attended aerial gunnery school and was assigned to the Eighth Army Air Force stationed in Polebrook, England.
After World War II, he returned from active duty and served the remainder of his military career with the Georgia National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve School before retiring with the rank of Colonel.
Awards received by Col. Genone for his military service are Air Medal, European Theater Ribbon, WW II Victory Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.
In civilian life, Joe was co-owner of All-State Bonding Company for over 50 years before retiring.
He was a life member of The Eighth Air Force Historical Society, a life member of the GA National Guard Association, a life member of VFW Post 658, and a member of the 121st Infantry Association.
Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Alice (Daniels) Genone and brother, Ernest Genone and survived in death by three sons, Ernie, Dan (Judy), and Terry (Loretta) and sister-in-law, Catherine Genone, other survivors, Patti (Jeff) Williams, Cherry Genone, and loving companion, Mary Alice Bruce, 8 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
