Joseph died at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA on October 23, 2023, after a lengthy illness.
Joseph attended public schools in New York City and graduated from Bayside High School. In 1983, he joined the New York Transit Authority for 30 plus years of service.
In his youth, Jerome (as we lovingly called him) was an avid baseball and football lover. His passion for all sports continued for him and his family through the years. Jerome loved to travel, dining out and enjoyed himself at the casinos. He was a prudent, dedicated, diligent and righteous man. Very outgoing, funny, and well-groomed (always looking good). Jerome truly loved all his family and friends. He will truly be missed by all who have grown to know and love him. “If only we had more time” …
He leaves to mourn, his beloved wife, Brenda L. Young Tyson of Macon, GA; one brother: Gustavus Tyson (Deborah) of New Port Richey, FL; four daughter(s): Aleeya Tyson of College Park, GA; Reneisha Tyson Holley (Terik) of Laurelton, NY; Nakia A. Young of Macon, GA; Asia S. Ellison-Tyson of Bronx, NY; and one son: Jorrell Joseph Earnest Mayfield (Nikki) of Gardendale, AL. Seven grandchildren: Ataya Tyson, Analya Tyson, Xiamara Tyson, Tamiera Holley, Terik Holley, Jr., Ania Denise Mayfield, Jersey Qumari Mayfield, and one great grandson: Arizonah M.J. Randolph. He also leaves a host of other relatives and close friends.
