
Joyce Young Mitchum, 83, died Monday, December 15, 2025, at her residence. A Celebration of her life will be held at Noon, Thursday, December 18, 2025, Snow’s Memorial Chapel, 1419 Bass Road with burial in Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Dwayne Outlaw and the Rev. Richard McNair will officiate. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. to service time at Snow’s Memorial Chapel Bass Road or may be contacted at the residence. Serving as Pallbearers, Dustin Mitchum, Dawson Mitchum, Karson Mitchum, Luke Wrye, Gage Wrye and Kevin Wrye. Honorary Pallbearers, Lamar Humphries, Wayne Cannon, Kevin Logue and Lance Stinson.
Joyce was born in Delta, Alabama, daughter of the late Ed and Nell Hollis Lacy. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-five years, David Mitchum and her best friend and brother, Bobby Young and brother, Scotty Lacy. She was a member of Stone Creek Baptist Church. Joyce was the owner of Mitchum Contracting for over forty years and she enjoyed reading, baking and dancing. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt.
Survivors include her children, Sheriff R. Darren Mitchum, Tracy J. Mitchum and Jessica Mitchum (Neil) Blizzard all of Twiggs County; grandchildren, Dustin Mitchum, Dawson Mitchum, Karson Mitchum, Kalie Mitchum, Luke Wrye, Gage Wrye, great grandchildren, Dathan Mitchum, Ryder Mitchum and Malaki Dunn, sister, Betty Ruth Fountain of Glenwood, Georgia and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
