Melissa Thomas Thorpe, 69, went to be at peace on Friday, March 24, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family. Memorial services and a celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono with Pastor Paul Dziadul officiating. Burial will be private at the Catholic Cemetery in Savannah. The family will meet friends following the service on Saturday at the funeral home. They suggest that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Kitty City Cat Rescue, 1432 Riverside Drive, Macon 31201.
Melissa was born in Macon on August 1, 1947 to the late Carl and Inez Thomas. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Michael Lubel. After a thirty-five year career in accounting and finance, she retired from Macon Water Authority as Chief Financial Officer with seventeen years of service. Melissa always wanted to travel and see the world. After retirement, she and Tom traveled to all seven continents, fulfilling a dream they shared. One of the things she most enjoyed was meeting people from all the many walks of life. She felt fortunate to have visited eighty-three countries in total. When not traveling, she spent her time reading and being with family and friends.
Survivors include the family she adored, her husband, William (Tom) Pounder; her daughter and son-in-law, Eden and Derek Yaniger and two grandchildren, Heather and Emma Yaniger.
