Perry was born in Atlanta but spent his life in Macon. He was the son of the late Rudolph Griffin Smith and Mary Turner Smith. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and retired from Blue Cross & Blue Shield as an Insurance Representative.
Perry was passionate about buying and flipping homes, an avid gardener, and enjoyed walking with his beloved dog and best friend (Carter). You could find him most days working out at the Macon Health Club. Perry was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and was a vital member of their Backpack ministry. He devoted much of his life to service work and his compassion for others gave him purpose; he was a "Big Brother" mentor to many youth, a volunteer at the Georgia Industrial Children’s Home, and was instrumental in starting the Boys and Girls Club of Jones County where he served as a board member. He advocated for the revitalization of Central City Park, always striving to preserve the beauty of Macon.
Perry’s survivors include his daughter, Mary Allison Hobby of Cumming, GA; two grandchildren, Abigail Hobby of California and Gracie Vinson (Reid) of Texas; one brother, Richard Smith (Deb) of Macon; one sister, Mary Ann Charles (Sydney) of Canton, GA and former wife, Pat Smith of Florida.
