Mrs. Anderson lived in Macon all her adult life. She grew up in Mansfield, GA, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sherrod Smith. Her father was a well-known professional baseball player who was later honored by induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, and her mother was an accomplished pianist who attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City.
Mrs. Anderson was a vivacious, energetic and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother in addition to volunteering her time and talents throughout her life to her church and to various civic organizations throughout Macon. She hand-painted and cured beautiful china for her children while enjoying with her husband the role of a master gardener.
On the personal side she loved her two sons, John and Bob, and their children and grandchildren with unwavering devotion until her death. She took great enjoyment from personal relationships with all ages and knew how to have fun and to make those around her also feel uplifted. Children were her special loves, and she had an uncanny eye for spotting, and then reaching out to help, little ones in need. She enjoyed contact with friends of all ages even in her final months as they were drawn to her. She and her husband, Newton, were firmly bonded to their Lord’s grace and love, and to His message of outreach to His children. Their married life was one of exceptional harmony, joy, and mutual commitment. As with her husband, her life was a hymn of praise; each stood for unquestioned devotion to God, family and country. Though she will be sorely missed, Sara and Newton’s witness lives on in their children and in the many friends they touched and loved.
Mrs. Anderson leaves her two sons, John (Becky) of Jacksonville, FL, and Bob (Bobbie) of Seneca, SC, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
