

Sara Ruth Skipper Whitten, 92, peacefully entered the loving arms of her beloved Savior on Thursday, September 01, 2016. She joined her late husband of 70 years, William Roy Whitten along with nine brothers and sisters. A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Liberty United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Wayne Anthony and Eugene Barlow will officiate. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Liberty United Methodist Church, 6511 Houston Road, Macon 31216.
Mrs. Whitten was born in Rutland, Georgia on December 6, 1923 the sixth of ten children on the family farm. She attended Rutland School and Miller High School. Mrs. Whitten worked for Peeler Hardware and at RAFB in the Personnel Office. She married her sweetheart on May 5, 1943 and they bought a home in South Macon.
Mrs. Whitten was active as a lifetime member of Liberty United Methodist Church. She served for 4 years as the President of the Women’s Society for Christian Service. Mrs. Whitten was active in the PTA of John H. Heard School and was a Girl Scout Leader of Troop 76. She later became active in the Rutland AARP Chapter.
Mrs. Whitten loved gardening and her family. She taught herself to use a computer in her 80’s and made genealogical family albums to share with her siblings. Mrs. Whitten was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her faith was strong and she was a living example of a gracious Southern lady.
Mrs. Whitten is survived by her daughter, Wanda Dianne Cline (Greg); grandchildren, Kathleen Marie Kondur and Rajeev Rao Kondur; many nieces and nephews.
