

Sheila Carmel Bashinski, born on February 13, 1931, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, January 2, 2024 in Rose Hill (William Wolff) Cemetery. Rabbi Elizabeth Bahar will officiate.
Mrs. Bashinski was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Nettie Ethel Pulitzer Carmel and Alexander Carmel. She was the graduate of Isadore Newman High School and Newcomb College in New Orleans, LA.
She was the widow of Dr. Benjamin Bashinski, Jr. (married 65 years) and was preceded in death by her son, Allan Pulitzer Bashinski. Mrs. Bashinski was a member of Temple Beth Israel, past president of Town and Country Garden Club and Temple Beth Israel Sisterhood. She was a member of the Bibb County Medical Auxiliary, board member of State Medical Auxiliary, and served on the Macon-Bibb County Beautification Committee.
Mrs. Bashinski loved her family and religion along with flowers, trees, art, and travel. She loved her birthplace of New Orleans (LA) for its food, tree lined streets and streetcar rides. She would tell you there is no place like New Orleans. She loved to travel and for a number of years worked as a travel agent. Her favorite destination was St. Petersburg, Russia because of the palaces, museums, rich history, the Russian people, and her fellow travelers.
Mrs. Bashinski is survived by her sons, Ben Bashinski, III MD (Deborah) of Augusta, GA, Randall C. Bashinski (Allyson) of Macon, and Stephen Bashinski of Macon; grandchildren, Alexis Bashinski Shaefer, MD (Mark) of Augusta, GA, Benjamin Bashinski, IV (Hannah) of Chicago, IL, Connor Bashinski of Atlanta, GA, Hayden Bashinski (Sydney) of New Orleans, LA; and sister, Lynda Carmel Saperstein of Encino, CA. In addition, she leaves behind four loving great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to her many devoted caregivers who provided her compassionate care in her last years.
