
Steven Lamb Alley died on Thursday, December 4, 2014. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 8 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 501 Bass Road with the Reverend John Napoli officiating. The family will greet friends on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at “The Activity Room” at Carlyle Place.
Mr. Alley was born on June 23, 1929 to the late Jefferson Davis Alley and Mamie Putnam Alley. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mamie Jackson Maddux and his brother, Joe P. Alley, Sr. Mr. Alley was a graduate of Lanier High School and graduated with a B.S. in civil engineering from Auburn University where he was a member of Chi Epsilon civil engineering honor society. He graduated from the Executive Program in Business Administration at Columbia University and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Alley was employed by J. M. Huber Corporation from 1953 until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Alley devoted much of his retirement to volunteer work at Yellow Mountain Enterprises, Feeding Avery Families and Hospice of Avery County in Avery County, North Carolina. He was a member of the Banner Elk Kiwanis Club. Mr. Alley was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, a charter member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jeannine Trawick Alley; son, Steven Trawick Alley, Sr. (Tanya) of Marietta and daughters, Beth Power (Steve) of Macon and Rev. Susan Alley of Fort Valley; and grandchildren, Steven Trawick Alley, Jr. of Atlanta and Caroline Lamb Alley of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
