Wayne Brooks Sawyer

Wayne Brooks Sawyer, 75, passed away Monday, October 15, 2013. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Ingleside Baptist Church with private burial before in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Tim McCoy and Dr. Mark Hudgins will officiate. The family will greet friends following the memorial service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Road, Macon 31210 or Central Georgia CARES, 520 Professional Drive, Suite 2, Macon 31201.

Mr. Sawyer was born in Georgetown, SC the son of the late Lena Richardson Sawyer and William Benjamin Sawyer. He was retired from broadcasting, having worked last for WPEZ Radio. Mr. Sawyer was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church, the 940 Men’s Bible Class lead by Darryl Jones, and a former deacon at Tattnall Square Baptist Church. He was past president of the South Carolina Broadcasters and a former board member of Tattnall Square Academy.

Mr. Sawyer is survived by his wife, Alice Gladden Sawyer of Macon; children, Jill Sawyer Walsh and her husband, Edward, Jeff Sawyer and his wife, Carol, and Jayne Sawyer Smith and her husband, Scott all of Macon; grandchildren, Katherine and Anna Claire Walsh, and Reid, Ali and Jack Sawyer; sister, Ila Sanders and her husband, Paul of Davidson, NC; several nieces and nephews; granddogs, Sophie, Sally, Riley, and Louie.
