
MACON - William Bryan Greenhaw, Jr., 80, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11A.M., Friday at Vineville Baptist Church with private burial in Riverdale Cemetery, Columbus. The Rev. Trippe Martin will officiate. The family will meet friends from 10:00 A.M. to service time on Friday at the church. They suggest that those who wish make memorial contributions to Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon 31204 or to Centenary United Methodist Church, 1290 College Street, Macon 31201.
Mr. Greenhaw, son of the late William B. Greenhaw and Bess-Avis Bazemore Greenhaw, was born in Columbus and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Living in Macon since 1955, he was a graduate of Mercer University earning his Master's degree from Auburn University and his Six-year degree from the University of Georgia. Mr. Greenhaw served thirty-three years in the Bibb County Public School Schools as teacher, counselor and Elementary Principal retiring from T. D. Tinsley. He was a life member and served twelve years as Field Representative for Professional Association of Georgia (PAGE) leading in the organization of the local chapter and its first president. Mr. Greenhaw served as the first president of Bibb Elementary Principals Association.
Mr. Greenhaw was a member of Vineville Baptist Church for more than forty years serving as deacon, as director of the media library from 1989 to 2006 and active in the music ministry. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Baptists Today, an autonomous national Baptist news journal. Mr. Greenhaw was a member of the Macon Chapter, American Guild of Organists and served as organist at Centenary United Methodist Church since 1999. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Sue Greenhaw Slaughter.
Survivors include his nephew, William L. (Leslie) Slaughter, Jr. of Columbus; great nieces, Sarah Slaughter and Mary Hall Slaughter of Columbus; brother-in-law, Judge William L. Slaughter of Columbus; cousins, Judy (John) Feagin of Birmingham, AL, Jane (Tom) Malloy of Wilmington, NC, Dr. William E. (Anna) Robinson of Oak Ridge, TN, Wayne (Sally) Greenhaw of Montgomery, AL and Martha O'Bannon of Florence, AL.
