

MACON – William Otis Terrell, Sr., 85, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Pine Pointe Hospice surrounded by his family. Services will be private. The family will meet friends from 5 – 7 p.m., Wednesday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Hospice of Central Georgia, 6261 Peake Road, Macon 31210 or to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Macon 31201.
Mr. Terrell, son of the late C. T. and Verna Lee Welch Terrell, was born in Shawmut, AL and had lived in Macon a number of years. At the age of seventeen, his mother signed for him to join the U. S. Marine Corps and after completing boot camp, he observed his eighteenth birthday, January 21, 1945, on board ship headed for Iwo Jima. He was a part of the first wave of Marines on the volcanic sand beach on February 29, 1945. Mr. Terrell was the brother of the late Margaret “Tootsie” Hollis.
Mr. Terrell is survived by those he loved most, his devoted wife of fifty-nine years, Mary Roberts Terrell of Macon; his beloved children, Elisa Hesselrode of Mississippi, Bill Terrell of Warner Robins, Tina Wall of Milledgeville; his grandchildren, Kristie Cunningham, Dustin Harris, Brooke Harris, Connor Wall and Avery Wall; his great grandchildren, Kaylie Chase and Parker Cunningham; his sister, Peggy Gilmore of Alabama and several nieces and nephews.
