A native of Laurens County, Mrs. Lord lived most of her life in Macon. She moved to Colorado Springs, CO, in July 2009 to be closer to family. Mrs. Lord died May 20, 2013, in Colorado Springs after her health declined for several months. Mrs. Lord spent most of her life as a housewife, with brief employment at Pep Creamery in San Luis Obispo, CA; the U.S. Naval Ordnance Plant in Macon, GA; the Macon Shirt Factory in Macon, GA; F. W. Woolworth in Dublin and Macon, GA; the William Carter Co. in Forsyth, GA; and Mullis Nursery in Macon, GA. She was an avid gardener and loved her big yard in Macon where for 46 years she turned seeds, stems and twigs into assorted plants, flowers, trees and bushes. Many of those plants will live on in Colorado Springs and in the yards of friends, family, and neighbors in Georgia and elsewhere. Shortly after joining the Mormon faith she began a longstanding practice of serving meals to the young missionaries. She told them if they survived her cooking, they could sign and date her white linen tablecloth. She then embroidered their name and date. Her tablecloth became widely known in the missionary community.
Mrs. Lord was preceded in death by her husband, Dovard L. Lord, Sr; infant son Jeffery T. Lord; son, Dovard L. (Les) Lord, Jr. of Lithonia, GA; father and mother, James H. and Daisy E. Snow of Dudley, GA; infant granddaughter Melanie Lynne Glotzback; great grandson Michael Sanders; and her five sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include her daughters Phyllis Fisk (James) and Beky Lord of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Melanie Sin (Robert) of Tracy, CA; grandson Joseph W. Chadwick, Jr, (Kimberly) of Loganville, GA; great granddaughters Peyton Chadwick, Carsyn Chadwick and Taylor Sanders of Loganville, GA; grandchildren Robbie and Kendra Sin of Tracy, CA; daughter-in-law Sylvia Lord-Roach (Gary) of Hoschton, GA; grandson Brian S. Lord of Dallas, TX; and a number of nieces, nephews, in-laws and dear friends in Georgia, Colorado Springs, and elsewhere.
Evergreen Fuenral Home, Colorado Springs and Snow's Memorial Chapel, 3077 Pio Nono Avenue, Macon, GA are in charge of arrangements.
