Madison—Edward “Ned” Joseph Macomb Jr., 79, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Hearth at Gardenside in Branford, CT. He was born October 16, 1933 in Valley Stream, NY. Ned is preceded in death by his father Edward Macomb Sr., his mother Winifred (Craddock) Macomb and his brother William Macomb. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Suk Soon “Jane” Kim; his three children, Edward K. Macomb and his wife Rev. Susanna (Stefanachi) Macomb of New York, NY, Van J. Macomb and his wife Carol (Krause) Macomb of Allentown, PA, Elizabeth S. (Macomb) Collins and her husband Ronald Collins of Orleans, MA. Ned is survived by five grandchildren, Julie and Christopher Macomb, Adam Macomb, and Haley and Trevor Collins. Ned is also survived by his brothers, Douglas Macomb and his wife Lorraine of South Carolina and Patrick Macomb and his wife Alyson of New York. After graduating from the Stevens Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering, Ned honed his engineering skills working with several corporations including Electric Boat (GE) and Western Electric (AT&T). Tiring of the defense industry, Ned decided to reapply his engineering skills toward building a better world through better infrastructure. This led him to many foreign lands, including Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Egypt and South Korea. It also provided him the unique opportunity to meet several historical figures, including Eleanor Roosevelt. In retirement, Ned became an entertaining storyteller and pursued his endless curiosity for knowledge, cuisine and culture. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 2PM until 4PM at the Swan Funeral Home, located at 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison, CT.
