Glenn Paul Freiman passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 3, 2024, at the age of 60. Glenn will be dearly missed by his wife of 29 years, Mimi, his devoted children, Kyle and Chase, Chase’s Fiancée Sarah, and our dog Heartly. He will also be lovingly remembered by his close family and countless friends.
Glenn was born in Hartford, CT on May 21, 1963, the loving son of Jacob and Ethel Freiman. Glenn was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and sailor. Glenn’s youth was spent on the waterfront in New London where his dad introduced him to sailing and the ocean, two things that grew into who he was and what he loved. He also shared great memories of flying with his dad, a WWII air force veteran, throughout the northeast.
Glenn had a passion for building and working with his hands. This started in high school working on cars and for his dad’s flooring business, before heading into a career in engineering. There was truly nothing he could not fix. Away from work itself, Glenn’s astounding craftsmanship was regularly put on display through home projects and restoring countless boats.
Glenn had a strong competitive drive, regularly doing triathlons and sailing in long distance races. Glenn relentlessly sought out new adventures, whether that be through scuba diving, sailing, long distance kayaking in the summer or back woods skiing in the winter. This is all a side of Glenn he instilled and shared with his children through coaching youth sports and always encouraging them to take on new journeys of their own. Glenn shared his love for sailing with his family, spending every summer cruising New England waters from West Harbor (FI) to Block Island, Cuttyhunk to Menemsha, Watch Hill to Newport. Every summer brought new adventures. Glenn also enjoyed his time as Fleet Captain at Thames Yacht Club in New London and watching his kids race Optis.
Those who knew Glenn knew there was no one more generous, loyal, and selfless. His calming demeanor and witty jokes were sure to relax you through any tough situation. His dry, sarcastic humor was a genre of its own that we all love to embrace throughout our lives today. He was a gentle soul with a heart of gold and was the most empathic and compassionate person we knew.
A celebration of life will take place in May, close to his boat Piper and the waters that he loved.
