It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Jeffrey Joseph Colburn, on December 9, 2025, at the age of 63. He was born March 19, 1962, in Buffalo, NY, a son of Nancy Colburn and the late Richard Colburn. He leaves behind his wife, Kim Colburn; children, Connor and Abigail Colburn; his daughter-in-law, Priya Colburn; and his dog, Zeke.
Jeff was a true man of mettle with an infectious passion for life and faced all of life's challenges with unwavering optimism. An avid runner, he completed 10 marathons and set a PR of 3 hours, 3 minutes, and 10 seconds at the 99th Boston Marathon on April 17, 1995. While the Boston Marathon's Heartbreak Hill at mile 20 has crushed the spirits of many runners, Jeff embraced adversity, including his greater up-hill battle as a life-long Buffalo Bill's fan. Despite them never winning the ever-elusive Super Bowl ring, his greatest joy came from watching the games with the ones he loved.
Jeff’s good humor and generous spirit touched everyone he met. His greatest happiness came from helping others, whether they were family or a person he had just met. He greatly enjoyed his time as a Little League Baseball coach and loved recounting his players' stats and plays to anyone who would listen. He will especially be remembered for his dedication and contributions to his community at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Madison, CT.
Fatherhood was Jeff's true calling in life. He loved his children fiercely and unconditionally and filled their lives with laughter. He found great joy in dragging his children out of bed early in the morning to get started on his latest home improvement projects. He particularly enjoyed watching Red Sox, Buffalo Bills, and UConn Huskies games with his family. Some of his favorite moments were spent on the golf course with his son, Connor, who, despite many attempts, never quite managed to beat him. His daughter, Abigail, will fondly cherish his infectious Christmas spirit and the many hours they shared cooking, listening to music, and sharing stories. We like to imagine Dad now, finally at peace, sitting on a porch and basking in the sun with his beloved dog, Rat Rat (aka Belle).
He is survived by his five siblings, Kevin Colburn, Colleen Adams, Elizabeth Colburn-Moraites, Christopher Colburn, and Kate Cote.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Madison, CT. All family and friends are welcome.
Visitation is from 5 PM to 7 PM on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Swan Funeral Home in Madison, CT.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants.
