

He was born on November 2, 1930 in Greenwich Village, NY to Angelo and Kate Mauro. He worked at a variety of companies throughout his career in the Life Insurance industry, landing at the World Headquarters of the Knights of Columbus in New Haven, CT in 1968. He retired from the Knights of Columbus in 2000 at the age of 70, continuing as a Member of the Board of Directors for several more years. During his tenure as Senior Executive Vice President in charge of Insurance and Agencies, he traveled extensively and had a close relationship with the Vatican. As well as being a fourth degree Knight, he was awarded the title of Knight of Saint Gregory.
A devoted family man, he leaves behind his son, Joseph, Jr. (Sue), Jaime (Mary Beth), his daughter in law Amy, his daughter Jill (Paul), his grandchildren Chris, Tracey, Phoebe, Noah, Ella and his great grandchildren, Jack and Owen. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois, his sons John and Jason, as well as his grandson, Isaac. He is survived by his sisters, Marie Illuzzi and Dorothy Rosenberg.
A mass of Celebration will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at St. Margaret Church, 24 Academy St. Madison, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital are greatly appreciated.
