
Lee Kemmerer Knudsen, 77, of Madison, died peacefully on October 24th at Connecticut Hospice after a long illness. He was the devoted husband of 52 years of Wilfriede Knudsen, proud father of Kristine Knudsen of California, Brenda Knudsen of Branford and Kirk Knudsen and his wife Julie of Milford. In addition to his wife and children Lee leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Elena, Erik and Eva Knudsen, and Brede Doerner. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Levine, of California. Lee was born in Brooklyn New York on June 2, 1934, the son of Louis R. and Esther Kemmerer Knudsen and beloved step mother Marjorie Peabody Knudsen. He graduated Brooklyn Technical High School in 1952, and went on to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemical and mechanical engineering from Bucknell University and the University of Connecticut. He was an engineer for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for 35 years, where he helped develop the fuel cell for the Apollo Space Program as well as patent work in the turbine group. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday October 29, 2011 2 p.m. at the Swan Funeral Home 825 Boston Post Road Madison.
