

Marcia Winder Steadman, beloved mother, wife, grandmother and friend, died on September 19, 2011 at the age of 85. Marcia was born in Meriden, CT on August 13, 1926, and was a long time summer resident of Madison, CT, starting at the age of 2 when her parents Frederick J. Winder and Elizabeth O’Neil Winder built a house near the shore.
Besides her parents, Marcia was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, E. Thomas Steadman, a physician at New York Hospital, sister Jane Winder, and brother Frank Winder.
Marcia is survived by her daughter Tracy (and husband Peter) Wise of Bellevue, WA; sons Broeck (and wife Marlis) Steadman of Rumson, NJ, Dirk Steadman of New Orleans, LA, Webb (and wife Noreen McGill) Steadman of Bloomfield, CT, and Coe (and wife Athena) Steadman of Liberty, UT, and her grandchildren Lloyd and Gwen Wise, Tilli and Evan Thomas Steadman, and Bryson and Kylie Steadman.
Marcia graduated from Smith College in 1948. She lived in Tenafly, NJ; Englewood, NJ; New York City and finally in Madison, CT.
Marcia had a zest for life; she loved her family and the world of nature around her. She was an avid skier, swimmer and beachgoer. Marcia was a skilled artisan; over the course of her life, she designed and created many beautiful pieces of silver jewelry and other silver creations, needlework and knitted pieces. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her spark, and for her keen intellect, sharp wit, strength, and generosity of spirit.
