Marion Rich

Marion was born in Middletown, CT on December 8th, 1916, the daughter of Raymond A. Griswold. Sr. and Ruth (Larson) Griswold.

Marion and her late husband Lawrence raised their family in Killingworth. Marion was a life long member of the Killingworth Congregational Church. She was involved in the women’s group The Wednesday Eves, which held fund raising events for the church. Marion had a sharp intelligence and a quick wit. Her knowledge of Connecticut and especially Killingworth’s history was extensive. Both her father and grandfather had served in the State of Connecticut Legislature. Her father Raymond Griswold Sr. was the First Selectman for Killingworth for over thirty years.

Marion and Larry retired to East Brookfield, MA where they spent many happy years with friends and family. Marion was an avid reader, Boston Red Sox Fan, and enjoyed daily crossword puzzles. She was always interested in the lives of her grandchildren.

Marion is survived by her son Dennis Rich and his wife Cynthia of Killingworth, CT., grandchildren Susan Dickie of Madison CT, Donald Schmidt of Island Pond, Vermont, Matthew Rich and his wife Colleen of East Haddam, CT and Jonathan Rich and his wife Pam of Killingworth, CT. Marion’s greatest joy were her great grandchildren Donnie, Connor and Tessa. She is also survived by her brother Raymond Griswold Jr. and sister-in-law Lillian as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marion was predeceased by her husband Lawrence, daughter Sally Schmidt, and son Allen Rich.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to wonderful nurses and staff at Middlesex Hospice and Palliative Care. Their support and care allowed Marion to remain at home during her illness.

Funeral services will be held at the Killingworth Congregational Church. Route 81 Killingworth, CT at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 22nd, 2015. Burial to follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.
