

Victor was born on October 3, 1926 to in Ross, California to Edgar and Muriel (Knott) Burt, and grew up in the greater San Francisco area.
While in high school, he worked on building Liberty ships as part of the war effort. After graduating high school he served in the U.S. Airforce during the final days of World War II in the Aleutian Islands. After the Airforce, Vic earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic in 1952 and remained in San Francisco.
While living in San Francisco, spent his time with his friends, including Kent Coldwell, and going on hiking trips. On one of these trips Vic met Carolyn Ruscoe, of Darien CT and they eventually married in 1960. The couple relocated to Darien in 1961 and had three sons before divorcing in 1987.
Victor spent his career as a Sales Engineer at a variety of companies throughout Connecticut and New Jersey, and finally retired from Blake Equipment in 1992. He spent his retirement enjoying a succession of Connecticut seaside towns, including Norwalk and Essex. He then worked part time for a number of years as a historical interpreter at Mystic Seaport. When not working Victor enjoyed sculling on local rivers, Long Island Sound and in competitions throughout New England. In addition to spending time with his seven granddaughters, Vic’s hobbies included woodworking, maritime knot work, enjoying good food and fine, single-malt whiskeys.
He leaves his three sons, Peter and Jeffrey, of Madison, CT, and David of Berwyn, PA and his seven granddaughters, Justine, Bridget, and Tess of Berwyn, PA, and Harriett, Sophie, Chloe and Phoebe of Madison, CT. He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Stuart.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road, Madison, CT. The service will be preceded by a visiting hour from 1-2 p.m.
