

William “Buddy” Flynn, 79 of Madison and Stuart FL, passed away October 6, 2011 of pneumonia at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford. He was born October 4, 1932 in Brooklyn NY to Patrick and Cecilia (Kelly) Flynn. He is preceded in death by parents, brother, James Flynn, sisters, Evelyn Maher and Eileen Hartley. Buddy is survived by loving wife of 57 years, Catherine “Kitty” (Glenn) Flynn and children; Catherine Flynn-Donovan and her husband Daniel of Madison: Kevin Flynn, of New York City: Kelly Flynn and her husband William Schultz of Madison: Mary Sue Flynn of Philadelphia; grandchildren: Flynn Donovan, Cassie Donovan, Mac Donovan, Caitlin Flynn, Thomas Schultz and William Schultz and a sister, Lorraine Sullivan and her husband William of New York.
Buddy volunteered to serve his country in the Korean War at the age of 17 and returned a combat decorated veteran Buck Sargeant at the age of 20. Returning home he married his life long sweetheart Catherine (Kitty) Glenn. They were together until the end. They raised 4 children who were all with him at his passing. Big Bill, as he was known to many began a career as an ironworker in New York City, working on many of the big buildings and bridges that line the city’s skyline. Surrounded by and holding hands with his family he peacefully left this world.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Sunday, October 9, at the Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison, CT. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Academy Street, Madison with Committal to follow at West Cemetery in Madison with military honors.
