Dear Bob and Children,

I'm sure over the past few days you've heard many wonderful stories about Wilma's days at Academy School and I liked to add one more to the list.

Our daughter transitioned from OLM to Academy in 3rd grade.  She was worried that she wouldn't know anyone in her new school so we enrolled her in Academy On Wheels that summer.  As we stood waiting for the bus that morning, she nervously looked around and whispered "Mom, I don't know any of these kids!"  Now, I started to get nervous...Finally, she spotted one girl she knew from Ballet class.  Whew! She proceeded to follow her one "friend" onto the bus when the girl plopped down next to another friend.  My heart sank.  I had all I could do to stand there and watch my somewhat shy daughter sit behind her by the window with big tears streaming down her face.  Just then, like an angel with wings, Wilma Maus stopped by her seat, smiled and sat down. The lump in my throat dissolved.

When Jennifer got off the bus that afternoon, she was a new person!  She had matured beyond her age and had an air about her that seemed to say, "I can do anything now!"

A few years later, our son had one of his best years in school when he had Mrs. Maus in 5th grade.  "Where the Red Fern Grows" prompted many meaningful dinner table conversations  and  to this day holds  a prominent place in our family bookcase.  Mrs. Maus will always hold a special place in the hearts of all the DeLucia family!

I wouldn't mind being in Wilma's shoes when she met her Creator face-to-face and He said, "Wilma, I gave you the talents to be a loving, empathetic, kind, smart, funny and fair teacher..what did you do with them?....Well done, my good and faithful servant!"

Dear Bob, my deepest sympathy to you and your family on the death of your beloved Wilma. She was a wonderful person and we are all blessed for having known her.  May God grant her eternal peace and calm the hearts of all who mourn her passing.

Mrs. Maus was my all-time favorite teacher. She taught my 5th grade class (1988-1989) & "chaperoned" my summer adventures with Academy-on-Wheels. So many great memories of her, a truly inspiring and fun teacher. Loved her. Condolences to your family.
