Flora “Dolly” Ferries, age 94, passed away on March 15, 2025. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 14, 1930, to her late parents, Harold Davidson and Lillie Davidson (Marks). Flora is survived by her loving children David (Doris) Ferries, Tom (Laura) Ferries, and dear grandchildren Shelby, Thomas, Katherine, and Victoria. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 74 years, John “Bill” Ferries, and their infant daughter, Valerie, and by her brothers Harold and Russel and Sister CeCe.
Bill and Dolly moved to Madison Heights from Detroit in 1955 and spent the next 68 years actively involved in their Family, City, and Community. Dolly participated and held officer positions in the Madison Heights Historical Commission, Friends of the Madison Heights Library, M.H. Family Coalition, M.H. Round Table and M.H. Youth Assistance. She was passionately involved in the Madison Heights Intermediate Women’s Club, serving in various officer positions including twice as President. After a period of dormancy, Dolly resurrected the annual Memorial Day Parade honoring our veterans and served as the parade organizer from 1989-1999 and then remained involved until 2018. Dolly received many awards and recognition from the city, county and state for her work and received the Key to the City of Madison Heights in 2005 for her years of work on the parade. She was an avid collector of…everything, world traveler and had visited every one of the lower 48 states with her husband in their succession of motor homes.
Dolly waited many years for a daughter and got two in Doris and Laura, waiting even longer for her cherished grandchildren. Dolly touched and positively influenced so many lives beyond her family (who got used to losing their personal identities and being known as “Dolly’s husband” or “Dolly’s Boy(s)” within the confines of Madison Heights) and we hope you will share your memories of this great lady below.
