Several of us played with Jack in several different musical groups.  He was always available even at the last minute to help out the Royal Oak Symphony.  I enjoyed playing at the senior centers with his Macomb Band,  I kjnow he is drumming away with the angels in heaven!

When I was little I always looked up to my grandpa Jack as an incredibly strong and opinionated man, when he hugged me I knew he truly cared about me. One of my proudest memories was when I finished college with honors and he hugged me tight and said "you did good, kid!" He was proud of me, and I'm so very proud to be able to say that Jack Mixter was my Grandpa. RIP Grandpa Jack, I'll love you always.

Jack was one of my great friends and a terrific musician.  Jack played drums in the Night Lights Big Band, the Jump Street Swing Band, the North Oakland Dixieland Band, and the Night Lights Jazz Combo.  Jack was someone that you could always depend on and always brought down the house with his fantastic drums solos.  He always had a positive attitude and looked forward to returning to playing and directing again.  May he rest in peace!

On behalf of the Macomb Area Community Band, I wish to express our deepest sympathies to Jack's family. Jack truly loved music and our concert band. He worked diligently to expose us to different types of music and to challenge as musicians for which we are very grateful. I am convinced that he truly believed that he was going to beat his disease and return to his family and our band. RIP

Jack was a very talented percussionist and always willing to jump in and help out when needed. The music community will certainly miss him along with all the people he touched with his gift of music.  We know he will certainly be keeping time up in heaven.  Love you, Jack,

I'm afraid that as a band participant I drove Jack crazy with my inability to keep (much less set) the beat, and it must have been so frustrating for him.  Yet, despite my less than brilliant performances, he rendered a service so precious to me it will be with me forever.  My husband, a World War II veteran, was in a nursing home in August, 2014, and, knowing Jack's military background, I invited him to come over to the home for a small celebration we were giving for Cy in honor of his 95th birthday.  Jack came over to Medilodge, came into the room, and went over to Cy and spoke so respectfully to him and honored Cy's military service.  Jack (although he didn't know it) was standing in for all of Cy's military buddies who were no longer with us.  It was a blessed moment, and it brought so much happiness to Cy.  I will never forget his gracious and caring gesture to Cy and to our family. I can see him now, talking so gently to Cy, and that is how I will always remember him.  Thank you again, Jack, for your kindness to Cy.

I had the pleasure of working with Jack twice in his insurance career.  Both times we worked together it was with mutual respect and regard.  He was upfront, honest, and diligent in everything he did. After he retired he continued to assist us in underwriting.  He was our eyes on the street. He was a good man and we will all miss him. While I did not have the honor of knowing Jack for a long time, the time in which I did know him, he was one of my favorite people. I feel privileged to have met him and been conducted by him. I will cherish the solo he featured me and directed me in, this past Christmas concert, and the year that I was able to call him one of my conductors. I will miss his smile and his humor during rehearsals, and I hope his family can find peace during this very difficult time. Please know the music community's thoughts and prayers are with you all and that we recognized what a wonderful man Jack was.

My deepest condolences to Jack's family and friends.  I had the pleasure of knowing Jack through MAC Band.  His dedication to the band throughout the years has helped keep music alive for those of us "not on the short-list for the DSO", as Jack had been known to say.  He will be greatly missed.  May God bring love, peace and comfort to Jack's family at this difficult time.

Jack spoke with a command in his voice to match his large stature. Jack was an honest man who would tell you what his opinion and thoughts were on any topics without censorship. He was also a kind, loving gentle giant who loved deeply, was loyal to a fault and put family above all else. 
Jack, I am so grateful to have had you in my life for the last 22 years. I am so thankful for all the love you continuously poured into our family. I am honored to have called you my father-in-law. I am so blessed to walk every day of my life alongside your son. A man who learned from you all of his core values that make him such a great husband, father and man; integrity, honor, loyalty, honesty, kindness and most of all a deep love for his family.
I will miss you deeply and lovingly think of you often. Thank you for all the wonderful memories through the years that have only enriched my life and thank you for making me a better woman for having known you.
