Karl, I never got to meet you but my boys have played with your beautiful boys Luke and Isaac many times. They are truly sweethearts and our heart goes out to them and your family. Your dad, Gustov, is one amazingly talented and kind man so I am certain that you took after him. We are sending our condolences, thoughts and prayers to all of your loved ones. Karl had the most genuine heart.

When my own father was sick from cancer and I couldn't eat or sleep from the stress, he looked at me one day and said, "you look so sick, you're not taking care of yourself. You need to eat!" So from then on, on the nights after work when I'd go to see my dad at Beaumont, he'd send me off with the BEST meals (prime rib, filet, you name it) and he wouldn't take no for an answer. My world was crashing down and his concern for me during that time meant more than anyone could ever know.

Karl was never a complainer, and always a hard worker. He always had my back (and so many others), was a great listener when you needed it most, and of course-- never failed to make you laugh. The straight from the gut, real, make-your-cheeks-hurt kind of laugh. Honestly just a good, good person. 

I miss you buddy and will always cherish the great memories you gave me!

It's hard to address you being gone when my brain hasn't even totally registered that it's reality--I'm going to do my best.  I haven't ever met anyone else with as warped of a sense of humor as me, you were it! We would sit around for HOURS, sometimes all night, talking about any and everything in the most hilarious, and often wildly inappropriate, way. We kept each other rolling, and it didn't really matter if anyone else understood, because we did, and it was FUN. I haven't met anyone else like that, and I don't imagine I will.  I just keep thinking about all the ways you're irreplaceable. 
Pretty much all the good bands I've seen, I saw with you. RHCP, Polvo, QOTSA, Megabussing to Archers of Loaf in Chicago when I was 9 months pregnant with Cinder, the list goes on. I know that if you're going to give me little signs that you're still around, one of those ways will be through music.  Just save the Quad City DJs for someone else. You were a great babysitter/buddy to the kids because you let them do stuff like paint your entire feet with nail polish, and were on the total up-and-up with cool things like Star Wars, Transformers and action figures. Collin said you were his best buddy, and proved it by running top speed up the entire driveway and head-butting you full force. We didn't see that coming lol! Fun and funny stuff aside, I never worried about the kids in your care, you loved them like family. They were your family.
And then you built your own family, three of your very own mini-me buddies! No matter how rough or stressful life got, you had them, and you lived for them. They'll grow up knowing that, and loved by everyone who knew you and how important they were to you. It's so unfair that this happened at all, but mostly to them.
We talked about stuff we didn't tell anyone else. We had many, many ups and very few down. One million good times, but what I wouldn't do for one million and one. I'm glad you got mushy the last time we spoke, it's never bad to go out with an 'I love you.'
I love you Karl, I hope you're somewhere with TJ and feeling good. Come around and let me know "IS there funk after death?"
Just keep away when I'm in the shower!
Please, give me some kind of something to be strong tomorrow. I will miss you forever.

Karl, you introduced me to RHCP, The Mars Volta, Pavement, Modest Mouse, Steely Dan and we had an affinity for The Pina Colada Song. We laughed, we cried and we fought but we had love once for each other. I was so sorry to hear about the loss of you, for your family and for your children. When you loved, you loved deeply and I can only imagine how much they meant to you. Peace be with you, Karl and those that loved you. May the funk live on in your children.

You made me feel like your brother from the first time we met.  You always had a way of making people smile and brightening their day.  You will never be forgotten.  I love you brother.  Until we meet again.

It is with an aching heart and tears in my eyes that I now must welcome your Father into this horrible club of parents who have lost their child. As a new member I am still lost myself and now this... 
Say hello to TJ for me and have him check in on his mother for me. I worry so about her... I will be seeing you in my dream I am sure!

Oh, Karl. I just talked to you a few weeks ago. The last thing I said to you was "love you, man" to which you replied "love you too." I can't believe you are gone. I will miss you, friend. Sending love to all your family and friends during this hard time. xoxo Dana
