She and Bill met as teenagers and married shortly after high school on October 11, 1952. They moved to Missouri when Bill was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood with the US Army. When they returned to Michigan, Shirley and Bill built their home in Clinton Township, where Shirley lived independently until her passing. She and Bill enjoyed their numerous trips to Europe, Asia, and South America. They were married for 64 years.
Shirley attended Wayne State University and received a BA in Education in 1975. She worked as an assistant branch manager for a bank, and later managed finances for a paving company. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also had strong affections for her pet dogs.
