Uncle Stash  always had a big smile on his face, when he would hug you, you knew you were loved. As a kid I thought it was so cool that he jogged to work, of course anytime in the area my Dad insisted we go visit him at  Sears.  One year on our annual perch fishing trip up north to Standish, Uncle went with  Dad & I. About an hour into the journey, Uncle tapped my Dad  on the shoulder, “ Barbara has that damn kitten  with her”. I giggled. Dad said he knew, he just brought him home for me. By the way I named the kitten Stasio. We had a lot of fun, made our pit stop at McDonald’s caught a ton of perch. Uncle was impressed I baited my own hook and removed the fish I caught. He often spoke of how much he enjoyed his fishing trips to Lake Erie . In 1995 my Dad was diagnosed and died quickly of cancer . A beautiful memory was the two of them sitting there watching a football game in Dads hospital room. I took a double take  as I walked into the room ,  they were holding hands.  They weren’t saying a whole lot , but  the love in that room was very obvious . When Dad died Uncle hugged me so tightly, as we both cried he said he lost a brother. Christmas 2006 Mom died suddenly taking us all off of our feet. As I spoke of her life and people who were very important to her, I wanted to make sure, Uncle Stash knew how much she loved him as a father figure. The kids lost grandpa Joe very young. I bought  8 sets of white gloves, asked Uncle Stash to be a pallbearer. I will always remember the gentle ,caring touch as he’s smoothed the flag on her casket in church.  He lived 95 years as a very loving, devoted prideful man with a heart of pure gold. As it close my eyes, I imagine the amazing reunion going on in heaven. I see all the brothers standing at a big wooden bar singing, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart “.  Uncle please give Mom & Dad a kiss for me. So long for now...
