

Alton Lee Franklin, 85, of Madison Heights, received the greatest Christmas gift when he went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Friday, December 20, 2013. He was the husband of Mary Massie Franklin.
Born September 26, 1928 in Peddlar Mills, he was the son of the late Herbert Leamon and Eva Rucker Franklin.
Alton was an active member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church. He loved to garden when he wasn’t traveling. He was a charming fretter and the best bear hugger who endeared himself to many.
In addition to his wife, Alton is survived by his two daughters, Betsy Franklin McKinney (Bob) of Bedford, Cindy Franklin Soult (Glenn) of Madison Heights; one sister, Barbara Franklin Brooks (Cecil) of Madison Heights; two grandchildren, Rev. Greg Soult (Maryanna) of Vinton and Mandy Soult Cassise (David) of Madison Heights; three great grandchildren, Brandon, Gavin, and Josiah; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special loved ones.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 2 to 4 pm at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11 am at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, with the Dr. Derik Hamby officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Park.
