Annie Pauline Harris Mayberry departed this life on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the Fairmont Crossing Health Center in Amherst, VA. She was a daughter of the late Estes A. and Elizabeth Reese Harris of Arrington, VA. Pauline was married for 68 years to Jesse “J.B.” Mayberry, who passed in 2015. In 1955, they built their home on Ridge Street in Madison Heights and lived there for the next 60 years.
Pauline is survived by three sisters, Christine Faulconer, who is her twin, of Madison Heights, VA, Florence Carter of Schuyler, VA, and Myrtle Dalton of Madison Heights and a step sister, Joyce Spencer of Arrington, VA. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. A sister, Frances Hutchinson of Charlottesville, VA and a brother, John Albert Harris of California predeceased Pauline.
For a number of years Pauline worked as a secretary at the Lynchburg Foundry and Craddock & Terry. She and J.B. were long time members of Madison Heights Christian Church, where she served as a Deaconess and the financial secretary for over 20 years. Active in garden club work for over 35 years, she held a life membership in the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs. Pauline and J.B. were members of the Winton Country Club and spent many enjoyable days on the golf course there. Each year they looked forward eagerly to their annual spring and fall trips to Daytona Beach, FL, where they formed lasting friendships with many of the other couples at Sea Club IV. Throughout her life, Pauline was a lover of fashion and the finer things in life and was often complimented on her good taste and sense of style by family and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2016 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating.
