Born on August 10, 1935, in Burkes Garden, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Augustus E. Lambert and Amanda B. Lambert. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry S. Vanhoozier, Jr.
Betty was a devoted member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she cherished her faith and her church family. Known throughout the Amherst community for her kindness and generosity, she cared for countless children over the years as a trusted babysitter. A wonderful homemaker, Betty found great joy in nurturing both her family and her home.
She had a lifelong love of flowers and gardening, and she especially enjoyed spending time outdoors planting vegetable gardens and tending to fruit trees alongside her husband. Summers were often spent canning vegetables and sharing the fruits of their labor with family and friends. Her gentle spirit and dedication to family, faith, and simple joys will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy V. Davis and Brenda Dieppa (Vincent); two grandchildren, Kathleen Berger (Jonathan) and Matthew Davis; and her nieces, Sally Turner (Douglas) and Patricia Trout (Daniel).
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Dwayne Martin officiating. Private burial will take place at a later date at Burkes Garden Central Cemetery in Tazewell, Virginia.
