

Carey Wallace Tolbert, 32, of Lynchburg, died, Saturday, October 13, 2012. He was the husband of Ashley Alexander Tolbert. Born January 28, 1980, in Lynchburg, he was the son of James William Tolbert, Jr. and Merrill Plumer Tolbert.
Carey was a salesman for Specialty Beverage Company of Richmond, VA, selling specialty craft beers. Carey lived in Marietta, GA for over 8 years before returning to Lynchburg. He created many dear friends that have expressed their condolences. Carey attended Virginia Commonwealth University and Lynchburg College.
Carey was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James William Tolbert, Sr.; and his maternal grandparents, Ralph Frampton Plumer and Joan Wallace Bartholomew.
In addition to his wife and parents, Carey is survived by his son, Aubin Hunter Swann of Lynchburg; his brothers, James Frampton Tolbert and his partner Andrew Sloat of New York, NY, Luke Merrill Tolbert and Rebecca Jean Miller of Arlington, VA and Andrew Bartholomew Tolbert of Los Angeles, CA; his niece, Peyton Brooke Tolbert of Arlington, VA; step-mother, Patricia Barnes Tolbert of Lynchburg; step-sister, Kelli Sprouse; step-brother, Michael Menzel; mother-in-law, Sylvia Lantz of Lynchburg; grandmother, Alice Virginia Tolbert of Pittsburgh; special aunt, Revvie Himes Hasbach and her fiancée James Wilson of Atlanta, GA; his special dog, Potter; and numerous loving cousins and friends. Carey has many paternal aunts and uncles who also dearly love him.
A memorial service led by Dr. Pete Warren will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 2pm followed by visitation with family at Grace Church, 21129 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg, VA, 24502. A Celebration of Carey’s Life will follow at 4:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society and the Mental Health Association of Lynchburg.
